Bill Murray expertly navigated a plate of spicy wings — with an assist from Pete Davidson — when the actor guested on the latest episode of Hot Ones.
“Well, I do like spicy foods: When I go to an Asian restaurant, I look for the red stars, and when I go to a Mexican restaurant, I ask for the stuff in the back,” Murray told host Sean Evans.
Murray is on the promotional trail in support of his upcoming role in the crime comedy Riff Raff—a press tour that also brought Murray to the Joe Rogan Experience last week. During Hot Ones, the actor discussed working with Wes Anderson, his tenure at Saturday Night Live, and acting alongside Davidson, with whom he shared instant chemistry in Riff Raff.
“Really just the first lines we had to say. You know you just feel it,” Murray said of his co-star. “It’s like a humidity, almost, you know when someone’s timing is good. You go like ah. It’s a great relief. And I was like, oh, we can do this. This will even be fun. So we began having fun, you know, take one.”
Toward the latter end of the interview, Davidson himself joined in as Murray readied to take on Hot Ones’ spiciest wings. While Murray ably handled the array of spice levels — Evans said it was “a cakewalk” for the actor — Davidson had a more difficult experience his first time on Hot Ones, as he had to be medically excused from the hottest wings due to his Crohn’s disease.
“Oh, by the way, I shit black for about a week, flaming hot black shit,” Davidson said. Despite that, Davidson and Murray both attempted to eat a 2.6 million Scoville-level wing. “Fuck,” Davidson said immediately after tasting. “Motherfucker.”
Murray managed to eat the “Wing of Death” without visible pain, though tears welled up in his eyes.
