Kelly Clarkson has been mysteriously absent from her daytime talk show, The Kelly Clarkson Show, for over a week — and no one seems to know why.
The singer’s absence first sparked questions about her whereabouts when she missed a taping on March 3, having actor Simu Liu step in for her as host at the last moment. He was initially set to appear as the guest to promote a project but was quickly promoted in Clarkson’s absence.
“Kelly isn’t able to make it today. We’re sending her our very best,” he told the audience. “I did not know that I was doing this until about five minutes ago when I arrived to promote my new movie, Last Breath.
“I’m here now, and look, I’m not one to back down from a challenge,” he added. Liu previously served as guest host for the show in 2022.
But before Lui, Roy Wood Jr. had stepped in on Feb. 28.
Clarkson briefly returned on March 4 and 5 and made no mention of her previous absence. It is also unclear if those episodes were taped live or were prerecorded.
The singer was out again on March 6 and hasn’t been back in the studio since.
“Kelly’s out for the day,” Wood Jr. said on March 6 when he returned as guest host for the second time. “I’m back. You’re in good hands. I was here about a week ago, I think they brought me back because of my resemblance to Kelly. You need to squint to see it, though.”
Guest hosts are lined up to run the show through the rest of this week. As of now, Clarkson is set to return for three days during the week of March 17, but additional celebrity hosts will step in for the two other shows.
Clarkson nor a rep for the star has publicly addressed her absence from The Kelly Clarkson Show.
Aside from her show, Clarkson is also getting ready for her Las Vegas residency at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace. Her 18-show run kicks off on July 4 and is scheduled to run through Nov. 15.
