LOS ANGELES — Mark Vientos limped as he departed the visitors’ clubhouse at Dodger Stadium on Monday night but wasn’t ready to say he is likely headed to the injured list.
The third baseman/DH received treatment on his right hamstring following the Mets’ 4-3 victory over the Dodgers in 10 innings.
Vientos fell leaving the batter’s box on a grounder to the shortstop hole in the 10th and reached for his hamstring.
Manager Carlos Mendoza said it was too early to say if Ronny Mauricio would be a candidate for Vientos’ roster spot should he need an IL stint.
But the fact the Mets used every reliever aside from Reed Garrett on this night suggests there could be a logistical play in which the team waits until Wednesday before potentially placing Vientos on the IL.
The Mets conceivably option Max Kranick to Triple-A Syracuse on Tuesday (for a fresh bullpen arm) and then recall him on Wednesday as the injury replacement for Vientos.
Otherwise, Kranick would have to remain in the minor leagues for 15 days.
Vientos, who finished 0-for-2, entered Monday’s game as a pinch-hitter in the sixth after Jared Young started as the DH.
