Gmoez brought the trophies to her Only Murders in the Building co-stars on set
Selena Gomez wanted to give Martin Short and Steve Martin their big moment for winning a Screen Actors Guild Award after they both missed the ceremony last month. The singer surprised her co-stars with their trophies while on set of the upcoming season of Only Murders in the Building.
“And the SAG Award goes to Steve Martin and Martin Short!” Gomez said as she entered one of the sets.
Of course, Martin and Short played right into the bit, with Short playfully falling to the floor after joking about how heavy the trophy was (multiple stars remarked about the weight of the statue during the live ceremony). “I would like to thank the Academy and everyone in the crew whose names… just don’t know,” he added.
“Thank you, world!” Martin added, saying it was his first SAG award. “Look at that, now we’re talking.”
The OMITB cast took home the award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series. Short also won the actor for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Comedy Series for his work on the hit Hulu series.
Short was forced to skip February’s ceremony after contracting Covid-19. Martin, meanwhile, skipped “due to a previous conflict in his schedule,” his reps said.
Following the awards ceremony, Gomez took to social media to celebrate their collective and individual wins. “After 4 seasons we got our first award as a cast!!! Steve, Marty you deserve this more than I do,” she posted on Instagram. “You guys have shaped the character I play on our show.”
